The Sketchbook on the wall is all about a starting point of experimenting with finding new colours and marks with different paint and mixing various media. It is full of fun and has no expectations of a result, allowing me to free myself before I start on a larger painting. I place them around the painting as I am working to help inspire me to use fewer marks or to think more about the mark or the colour and to be able to use more control within the more extensive work.
